EVERYONE COUNTS
Part 2 of a 2 part series
This 24 minute video looks at the problem of prescription drug misuse in one Native
American Community. Prescription drug misuse is a problem that occurs in every part of
society. No one is immune to it. Although studies have shown that the misuse of drugs is
not greater for native communities, some problems have surfaced. In the community of
Wagnatcook, Nova Scotia, prescription drugs were finding their way to youth on the street.
This moving video tells the story of one community's efforts to control the misuse. MicMac
Police officer Stephen Gloade recognized the need for more cooperation between health and
legal professionals. This program shows how collaboration between doctors, pharmacists,
drug and alcohol counselors, community health nurses and local law enforcement can help
curb this problem.
