Domestic Violence
Domestic violence not only shatters families but can also destroy entire communities. These two programs (on one video) dramatize the effects of domestic violence on the Native American family. The stress-building and explosive battering scenes are played by Lakota Sioux actors.

Bill is a young Native American man whose repeated episodes of
alcoholism and wife battering leave intense physical and emotional scars on his wife and
two children. For Bill, a jail sentence is the outcome. After seeing this powerful
program, viewers will be prompted to ask what can be done about domestic violence in the
American Indian Community.
Now out of jail, Bill is in his second marriage and the cycle of violence is unchanged. His wife, Kim, seeks counseling and refuge at a women's shelter. Ordered by the court to attend weekly counseling sessions, Bill must now take his first steps toward a life without violence. A counseling session member provides insight into why domestic violence has become so prevalent in the American Indian community. He discusses the mutual respect that his ancestors used to have for one another, and encourages Indian families to return to the value system that was once prominent in their society.
